To aid farmers whose standing crops have been damaged by the heavy rains and hailstorms that recently pounded various parts of the State, the Uttar Pradesh government has released a compensation of approximately Rupees Thirty-Eight Crore from the State Disaster Relief Fund.

Ensuring the government is standing with the farmers in every difficulty, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in a high-level Covid review meeting on Tuesday ordered the officials, “The farmers suffering from crop loss due to rain, hailstorm should be compensated immediately.” He also asked the officials to treat the affected farmers with the utmost sensitivity.”

In line with the CM’s order, standing instructions have been given to provide details of rain-related damage, and funds will be moved directly to the bank accounts of farmers.

Based on preliminary reports by the Office of Relief Commissioner, the compensation amounting to Rs 37,97,00,000 in the financial year 2021-22, informed Manoj Kumar Singh, Additional Chief Secretary, Revenue.

Untimely rain and hail have destroyed standing rabi crops in the state. Farmer-wise enumeration of crop damage is being done to take the matter to the notice of the government for necessary help.

The compensation has been released to the District headquarters from where the compensation amount will be transferred directly to the bank accounts of the farmers.

It is noteworthy that the Uttar Pradesh government has allocated more than Rs 535 crores under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to farmers who have suffered crop loss owing to recent floods in the financial year 2021-22 benefitting over 15 lakh farmers across the State.
